The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic clarified the situation regarding the sentence of a citizen of Kyrgyzstan in the USA
According to information published in the media, the U.S. Department of Justice reported that a Federal Court in Brooklyn (New York) sentenced Kyrgyz citizen Sergey Zharnovnikov to 3 years and 3 months in prison for conspiracy to illegally export American weapons.
In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan commented on the situation, noting that in connection with the sentencing by the competent authorities of the U.S. to citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic J.S.A., the following decision was made.
According to previously received information from American authorities, this citizen was detained by U.S. law enforcement agencies in 2025.
On January 22, 2026, U.S. courts issued a guilty verdict against J.S.A., determining his punishment in the form of imprisonment.
Since his detention, Kyrgyz consular offices in the U.S. promptly established contact with him and provided the necessary consular assistance. The service maintained constant communication with the citizen and provided consultations to protect his rights and legitimate interests in accordance with international norms and the legislation of the host country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively addressing issues related to the detention of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of its consular powers.
