Ferry with 350 Passengers Sinks Off the Coast of the Philippines, 15 Confirmed Dead

A tragic event occurred off the coast of the Philippines: the cargo-passenger ferry M/V Trisha Kerstin 3, which was traveling from Zamboanga to the island of Holo, sank. Preliminary information suggests that technical malfunctions may have caused the disaster, as reported by the Interfax agency.

The incident took place on the night from Sunday to Monday, when there were over 350 people on board. Official sources report that 316 passengers were rescued; however, 15 people have already been declared dead, and more than 100 are still listed as missing.

Coast Guard Commander Romel Dua stated that the details of the incident are currently being established and an investigation will be conducted.

He also added that before departing from the port of Zamboanga, the ferry underwent inspection, and no signs of overloading were detected.
