In Bishkek, employees of the GKNB of the Kyrgyz Republic discovered facts of torture in the rehabilitation center "Path to Life." It was established that this center operated illegally, posing as a medical institution providing services for people with addictions, while in reality, it violated numerous laws of the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to the intelligence service, the center's operations were conducted with gross violations, and the staff, most of whom were former addicts, did not have the necessary education and licenses. They conducted so-called "pseudo-psychiatric" procedures, and in cases where patients experienced acute psychological crises, cruel methods of intervention were applied.
Physical force and various equipment, including restraining beds, electric shock devices, and other items, were used to calm patients, leading to serious physical and psychological injuries.
Additionally, "disobedient" patients were placed in isolated rooms where they had no access to toilets and personal hygiene, sometimes remaining in such conditions for 7-8 days.
The investigation established that the center's activities brought significant income to its owners: the cost of "rehabilitation" for one patient was at least 80,000 soms per month. Relatives of the patients were unaware of the cruel methods employed in the institution.
A problem with the segregation of patients by illness was also identified. The center did not adhere to safety measures, endangering the health of all, as patients with infectious diseases were housed together with others.
During the investigation, evidence was collected regarding the involvement of medical workers in this illegal activity.
As a result of operational activities, several employees were detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. Investigative actions are ongoing.
The GKNB of the Kyrgyz Republic urges all victims to contact the duty service to file statements.
