In Chile, a city of 50,000 has nearly burned down due to wildfires
President Gabriel Boric declared a state of emergency and ordered the military to assist in addressing the aftermath of the disaster.
According to local authorities, the death toll is in the dozens, and hundreds of people are considered missing. The evacuation has affected more than 100,000 residents from dangerous areas.
The port city of Penco, which has a population of around 50,000, has been hit the hardest.
A significant number of buildings have been destroyed by the fire, and the scale of the devastation is confirmed by videos taken by eyewitnesses.
The material damage is assessed as extremely high. Rescue services continue to battle the flames and conduct search and rescue operations.
