Two passenger aircraft, a Boeing 737 from "Pobeda" and an Airbus A320 from Uzbekistan Airways, were dangerously close to each other

On January 10, a serious near-miss occurred in the airspace controlled by Shymkent air traffic controllers between two passenger planes: a Boeing 737 belonging to the airline "Pobeda" and an Airbus A320 flying as part of Uzbekistan Airways.

The aircraft were at altitudes of FL370 and FL360, respectively, and the distance between them became critically small. Collision avoidance systems (TCAS) were activated on both aircraft.
Thanks to the quick response and coordinated actions of the crews, a potential disaster was averted.

The incident was classified as serious and is subject to further investigation, for which a special commission was established.

Later, Uzbekistan Airways commented on the situation regarding the proximity of the aircraft in the skies over Kazakhstan.

“We at Uzbekistan Airways are aware of the media reports regarding a possible aviation incident in the airspace of Kazakhstan. According to international practices and ICAO standards, the investigation of such incidents in the airspace of another state is conducted by the authorized bodies of that state. In this case, the investigation is being carried out by the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan,” the airline representatives noted.

“We also want to emphasize that all Uzbekistan Airways flights are conducted in strict accordance with flight safety regulations, and the crews operate according to approved procedures,” they added, recommending to seek official comments from the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.
