A powerful storm has hit Turkey

A powerful storm has hit the western coast of Turkey, causing serious problems in the lives of several provinces, local media reports.

As a result of the worsening weather conditions, the authorities in Kocaeli decided to temporarily suspend classes in educational institutions.

Strong winds affected cities such as Istanbul, Balıkesir, and Manisa, where beaches and cultural heritage sites were damaged. Historical buildings and mosque minarets were damaged as a result of the hurricane, and in the Istanbul district of Sarıyer, strong winds knocked down the ten-meter Kirecburnu lighthouse, which was completely submerged. The situation was also complicated in the Burhaniye district located in Balıkesir province. Due to the severe storm, the water overflowed its banks, flooding coastal roads and blocking traffic.

Additionally, due to adverse weather conditions, ferry and maritime services have been canceled.
