President of Russia Vladimir Putin issued a decree that introduces a ban on the export of cash from the country to EAEU states in amounts exceeding 100,000 dollars. This restriction will come into effect in April.

The same decree also imposes a ban on the export of gold bars weighing more than 100 grams, with a few exceptions. This ban will take effect in May, according to information from TASS.

The EAEU consists of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

The decree specifies that the export of funds will be allowed through certain designated air checkpoints established by the government. To export Russian currency, a bank statement certified by the credit organization that issued the funds will need to be provided. This document must confirm the withdrawal of cash from the bank account of an individual, legal entity, or individual entrepreneur carrying out the export.

Additionally, the decree prohibits the export of gold bars weighing more than 100 grams starting from May 1 of this year, with certain exceptions. These exceptions include: the export of refined gold (999.9 purity gold, virtually free of impurities) in bars to EAEU countries through Moscow airports Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Knevichi in Vladivostok with the permission of the Federal Assay Chamber; the export of refined gold by individuals to countries outside the EAEU through the same airports with similar permission; the export of refined gold by legal entities and individual entrepreneurs to countries outside the EAEU.

As stated in the document, the introduction of a special procedure for the export of foreign currency and gold bars is related to the "protection of national security and interests" of Russia, as well as the need to counteract "unfriendly actions" from the USA and other countries. Please note that the provisions of the decree do not apply to the export of cash currency and refined gold bars by credit organizations. The decree came into effect upon its signing on March 25, 2026.
