At a meeting between the Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan, Damir Osmonov, and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in the country, Alexandra Solovyova, the current situation in the healthcare sector was discussed.
The main focus was on issues related to the provision of medical institutions with medications and equipment, as well as preparations for the new grant cycle of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
During the discussion, the parties noted that, thanks to UNDP support, the process of procuring and supplying necessary medications and medical products for healthcare organizations continues. Currently, organizational procedures are being carried out to ensure the successful supply of medical institutions.
In addition, the participants discussed logistical issues and stages of medical product deliveries within the framework of joint programs.
A key issue of the meeting was the preparation of Kyrgyzstan's application for the new grant cycle of the Global Fund. Given the country's rising income, it is expected that the volume of donor funding will gradually decrease, highlighting the need to increase the share of national funding for public health programs.
The first application window will open in early June. A working group involving national experts has been created to prepare all necessary documents. UNDP will continue to provide technical and expert support in the process of preparing the application and implementing grant activities.
At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness for further cooperation aimed at ensuring the sustainability of public health programs, including the fight against tuberculosis and HIV, as well as strengthening the pharmaceutical supply system.
