China will build outposts for Tajikistan on the border with Afghanistan
Recently, the Parliament of Tajikistan approved an agreement with China regarding the construction of nine border outposts on the border with Afghanistan. The total cost of the project is about 60 million dollars, which will be fully funded by China as a grant. In turn, Tajikistan will exempt this project from taxes, customs duties, and other mandatory fees.
The project includes not only the construction of the border outposts themselves but also the building of access roads, water supply systems, sewage systems, and electricity supply. However, Tajik authorities did not specify in which particular areas the new outposts will be located. It should be noted that China has previously financed the construction of border facilities on the Tajik-Afghan border.
As noted by Tajik political scientist Khursand Khurramov, strengthening Tajikistan's southern borders from the side of Beijing is aimed at preventing possible destabilization of the situation emanating from Afghanistan.
