Deputy Altynbek Kylychbaev raised the issue of an abandoned coal deposit in the city of Kok-Jangak, located in the Suzak district, during a meeting of the Committee on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Subsoil Use, Ecology, and Environmental Protection of the Jogorku Kenesh on March 9, 2026.
He noted that this deposit has not been exploited since the collapse of the Soviet Union and inquired why it remains overlooked and what volumes of coal are currently available there.
In response, the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Oversight, as well as the Director of the Kyrgyz Geological Service, Amantur Tursuniyazov, promised to obtain the necessary information and provide an answer later.

The meeting also reviewed information on the activities of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Oversight for 2025.

Reference information: according to data from the "Kyrgyzkomur" website, the Kok-Jangak deposit is located in the eastern part of the Fergana Valley, on the western slopes of the Fergana Range, between the Kugart and Changetsu rivers, in the Suzak district of the Jalal-Abad region.
Thirteen coal seams are identified in the coal thickness, of which four are of industrial significance. As of early 2014, the reserves of the deposit were estimated at 44 million tons, while the forecast resources amount to about 12.5 million tons.
The southern part of this deposit is known as the Markai section, where the explored coal reserves are 8.8 million tons.
