Analysts Named the Factors for the Growth of International Container Rail Transport in the Eurasian Region
According to experts, this is a 23% increase compared to 2021. The authors of the study emphasize that there is a rapid growth in container transportation in the region.
Key growth factors:
Russia: From 2021 to 2024, international container transportation via Russian Railways (RZD) will increase from 4 to 4.8 million TEUs.
Kazakhstan: Over the past 5 years, containerization has nearly doubled. Container transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Route (TCIMR) has tripled, reaching 76.9 thousand TEUs by 2025.
The total volume of cargo transported in containers through border crossings with Russia has increased from 1.6 to 8.3 million tons.
Uzbekistan: The use of container technologies is rapidly growing: the volume of cargo transported by expedited container trains, including the multimodal route China—Kyrgyzstan—Uzbekistan, has increased several times and is expected to reach approximately 100 thousand TEUs by 2025.
Azerbaijan: Container transportation by rail has increased by 19% compared to 2024, totaling 135 thousand TEUs.
