A new initiative aimed at encouraging young readers is being launched in Uzbekistan. The President of the country has announced the introduction of a monetary reward for schoolchildren who show activity in reading.
According to the new rules, students who read the most books and demonstrate a deep understanding of their content will be eligible for a prize of 10 million sums (equivalent to 817 US dollars).

As part of this program, a special collection featuring the 100 best literary works will be prepared by the start of the new school year. This collection will be delivered to all educational institutions in the country, including schools and technical colleges.

Furthermore, this initiative also provides support for the writers themselves. Talented authors will be given creative commissions, with a monthly payment of 20 million sums (approximately 1,634 US dollars) for a year. These measures are aimed not only at increasing youth interest in reading but also at stimulating the development of the contemporary literary process in the country.
