"We want the territory of Kyrgyzstan not to be used for the transit of dual-use goods to Russia," - EU Special Representative for Sanctions
O'Sullivan emphasized that the European Union highly values its relationship with the Kyrgyz Republic.
As part of this relationship, an agreement on enhanced cooperation and partnership was signed, as a result of which bilateral trade is expected to reach 3 billion euros by 2025.
The EU special representative noted that sanctions are one of the tools through which EU countries and their allies exert influence on Russia in the context of foreign policy. However, the possibility of circumventing these sanctions is a serious concern.
“One of the key issues is the financial system. In the 19th package of sanctions, we included several banks and cryptocurrency organizations,” he added.
“We are also concerned about the transit of high-priority goods through Kyrgyzstan that may end up on the battlefield,” noted David O'Sullivan.
Recently, he held meetings with the leadership of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Economy, and will also meet with representatives of the Agricultural Producers' Association and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Kyrgyzstan has already taken some steps in this direction, and the European Union expects further development of this issue.
“We hope that the territory of Kyrgyzstan will not be used for the transit of dual-use goods to the Russian Federation,” concluded the EU special representative.
