- According to Podguzov, the projected population growth will lead to serious challenges for the region, especially in the areas of water resources and energy efficiency.

Bank analysts emphasize that Central Asia is considered one of the most vulnerable regions in the world to climate change.

“It is expected that by 2028, the water shortage may increase to 5-12 cubic kilometers per year,” noted Podguzov.

He added that a significant amount of water resources is lost due to outdated infrastructure.

“To achieve sustainable development, it is necessary to first address the challenges facing the region: demographic changes, transportation, and water supply. These factors are closely interconnected,” believes the chairman of the EDB.

According to UNICEF data, by 2025, the population of Central Asia will exceed 84 million people.
