He noted that the functioning of the global economic system and international organizations is currently significantly weakened. In particular, the World Trade Organization is no longer able to effectively manage the ongoing processes.
“The creation of business forums in such a situation is an attempt to find solutions,” he emphasized.
Pirimbaev stressed that the current economic situation in the world demonstrates the importance of the South and Southeast Asian region for the 21st century. In this regard, the economic interests of major countries become a priority, closely intertwined with political factors.
The economist reminded that the first 5+1 format forum took place in Almaty in 2024, followed by a similar event in Beijing with the participation of China and countries from the region.
“Although such formats may not be critically important for major powers, they hold immense significance for us. We are at the stage of finding our place in international relations from both an economic and political perspective,” he said.
In his opinion, the long-term prospects of relations between the five Central Asian countries are a key issue, as this region will have a significant impact on economic development in the 21st century.
Pirimbaev added that the current format of the forum should be seen as an opportunity to seize a historical chance. He also emphasized the importance of increasing political literacy in the country.
“The 2024 forum took place, but the public is not aware of its results. Moreover, even we do not fully understand the outcomes. If such events are held, we need to learn how to summarize the results; otherwise, they risk being politicized,” the economist concluded.
