- According to studies conducted in 2011–2012, electricity consumption in the country increases by more than 5% annually. This information was shared by expert Zhanibek Kulumbetov in a radio interview.

“At that time, we realized that it was necessary to use electricity rationally, regardless of its cost, as the available resources may not be sufficient,” Kulumbetov noted.

As of today, Kyrgyzstan produces about 15 billion kWh of electricity.

“Due to the decreasing water levels in hydropower plants, we are forced to import almost 5 billion kWh of electricity. Studies show that overall there is enough energy, however, shortages are felt on certain days, especially during the winter period,” the expert added.

Kulumbetov also emphasized that the ongoing increase in electricity consumption is linked to insufficient rational use, making it necessary to develop an energy-saving culture among the population.
