The international freeride tournament is taking place at "Ala-Too Resort"
From January 16, international-level freeride competitions have started at the "Ala-Tuu Resort" ski resort, located in the Ak-Suu district of the Issyk-Kul region. The event is organized in collaboration with local and foreign partners.
Preparation for the tournament began on January 15, when athletes underwent training at the "Karakol" base. During the preparation, special training sessions dedicated to safety techniques on the slopes were also conducted.
Freeriders from more than 20 countries, including representatives from Kyrgyzstan, are participating in the competitions. Participants compete in categories for amateurs, professionals, and women.
Athletes demonstrate their skills on challenging slopes covered with deep snow, performing technical elements and jumps. Judges assess not only the difficulty of the chosen route but also the logic of its passage, safety, and skill in using the natural terrain.
Winners of the tournament will receive licenses to participate in international freeride competitions. The judging panel includes experienced athletes, including Gael Ribordi from Switzerland, as well as Kyrgyzstanis Vasily Nemchenko and Tahir Damenbaev, all of whom have experience working in the FWT (Freeride World Tour) system.
The main goal of the tournament is to promote Kyrgyzstan as a center for winter tourism, develop extreme sports, and create a platform for experience exchange between local and international athletes.
Additional information: The "Ala-Tuu Resort" project includes the creation of one of the largest ski clusters in Central Asia, which combines the resorts of "Jyrgalan," "Ak-Bulak," and "Boz-Uchuk." The project plans to construct 250 km of ski trails, create 7,000 jobs, and attract up to 2 million tourists annually.
Construction is being carried out in compliance with international environmental standards. The resort will operate year-round, with the completion of the first phase expected by the end of 2026. President Sadyr Japarov has repeatedly emphasized the importance of the project for tourism and the economy of the republic.
