Kim Jong Un fears assassination
According to the Ministry of Unification of South Korea, changes in the security detail of Kim Jong Un were noticed during the military parade in October. This may be related to his decision to send troops to assist Russia, which is waging war against Ukraine, believes analyst Hong Min from the Korea Institute for National Unification.
“Since the end of October 2024, changes in the security structure have been observed, which may indicate his concerns about an assassination attempt, especially against the backdrop of comprehensive international attention to troop deployments,” noted Hong Min.
Analysts also link the increased threat to Kim Jong Un with the recent attempt by the U.S. to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, which adds to his security concerns.
The leadership of North Korea has long been worried about the possibility of a "decapitation strike" and accuses Washington of attempting to overthrow its regime.
South Korea's intelligence agency previously reported that Kim Jong Un is strengthening his security measures by purchasing equipment for jamming communications and detecting drones.
Over the past year, Kim Jong Un has frequently appeared at public events accompanied by his daughter Ju Ae, which analysts believe may indicate her succession in managing the nuclear power.
