The Ministry of Agriculture is implementing pheromone traps for effective monitoring of quarantine pests

The Department of Chemicalization, Plant Protection, and Quarantine, operating under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Food Processing Industry, actively collaborates every year with the Federal State Budgetary Institution "All-Russian Plant Quarantine Center" to implement pheromone traps.

According to information from the department, in 2026, 2,220 pheromone traps were purchased, intended for 19 different types of quarantine objects. The main traps include a universal yellow sticky trap, capable of attracting all types of pests, as well as traps with pheromones for the black pine weevil, eastern fruit moth, and four-spotted grain beetle.

Pheromone traps are biologically active chemical substances that insects use to communicate information to their peers.
Monitoring using pheromones is considered one of the most effective and scientifically justified methods for detecting and identifying quarantine objects.

The use of pheromones along with traps allows for data collection on the phytosanitary condition of quarantine objects within several hours to 3–5 days. These traps, as a means of plant protection, are safe for the environment.
