The justification for this decision is related to the fact that there is a plant for the extraction and processing of gypsum stone operating in the village of Dostuk in the Jalal-Abad region. Extraction is carried out at the Changyrtash deposit, which is one of the largest sources of gypsum stone in the country.
Statistics show that the volumes of gypsum stone extraction in the republic were:
- in 2022 - 63,625 tons;
- in 2023 - 68,777 tons;
- in 2024 - about 85,000 tons.
The Cabinet emphasizes that if the current level of imports is maintained, domestic producers may face problems in selling their products and utilizing their capacities. Temporary non-tariff regulatory measures will create conditions for the restoration of the plant's operations, increase the utilization of production capacities, and enhance the competitiveness of local products, which will also help reduce the market's dependence on imports.
It should be noted that this ban is a temporary measure.
