Food Safety and Income: What Farmers in Kyrgyzstan Are Advised to Grow

Farmers in Kyrgyzstan are strongly advised to focus on producing crops that have high social significance, such as barley, wheat, potatoes, onions, and sugar beets. This was stated by Turatbek Idrisov, head of the Department of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.

The specialist noted that grains and sugar beets play a leading role in the strategic food reserves, which is critical for the country's food security. At the same time, the most profitable crops today are raspberries, strawberries, and corn.

Farmers choosing these directions are recommended to use drip and sprinkler irrigation. The state provides subsidies for the implementation of effective irrigation methods, as well as preferential loans with low interest rates.

Monitoring of the agricultural sector has shown that as the livestock population in the country increases, so does the area of sown fodder crops, such as barley and corn.
