As of today, there are 86 seed-growing farms operating in Kyrgyzstan, which are engaged in the production and sale of seeds for various agricultural crops. This was reported by Bakyt Mambetov, the director of the Department for the Expertise of Agricultural Crops and Horticulture under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, during a radio broadcast.

According to Mambetov, the farms are actively producing seeds of cereal crops and perennial grasses, such as alfalfa and sainfoin, as well as potatoes. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the production of corn seeds.

“In 2023, about 14 nurseries were selected, which provided planting material amounting to approximately 3.8 million seedlings of fruit and berry crops. By the end of 2024, this figure is expected to increase to more than 8.7 million, and in 2025, it is anticipated to reach 12 million 152 thousand seedlings. Currently, about 11 more nurseries are being prepared, which will soon receive the appropriate status, and the total volume of planting material will exceed 15 million seedlings,” he added.

The head of the department noted that in recent years, nurseries have begun to pay more attention to the production of ornamental plants. This is due to the increasing demand for such crops in the context of the active development of individual housing construction and the improvement of private plots.
