In Kyrgyzstan, large-scale work has begun on the modernization and construction of water supply systems in rural areas. These measures are initiated by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry under the leadership of Erlis Akunbekov. However, experts point out the need to revise the tariff policy to ensure the sustainable operation of new facilities.
Research shows that current tariffs in rural areas do not cover the costs of maintenance and repair of water supply systems. This leads to a lack of funds, which in turn causes problems with maintenance, equipment failures, and disruptions in water supply.
In light of the difficulties encountered, the authorities are considering the possibility of raising tariffs in accordance with the actual cost of services. Price regulation will help ensure timely repairs of infrastructure and stability in its operation over the long term.
At the same time, government representatives assure that the interests of citizens will be taken into account. According to current legislation, if the new tariff turns out to be lower than the actual cost, the difference will be compensated through subsidies from local or republican budgets. The same mechanism is provided for citizens belonging to privileged categories. This will help maintain the accessibility of water supply while simultaneously improving its quality.
The ministry also appeals to the population for responsible consumption. The agency reminds that clean water is a valuable resource, and careful treatment of it is the key to uninterrupted water supply for every resident.
