During a meeting of the Council of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, information was presented regarding the resolution of the irrigation issue that had existed in the village of Savay in the Kara-Suu district for many years. Deputy Minister and Head of the Water Resources Department Almaz Zheenaliev noted that the complete restoration of the irrigation infrastructure is expected this year.
This achievement was made possible through effective negotiations between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. As part of the bilateral cooperation, the Uzbek side carried out significant work: 10 km of the collector was cleared, and the functioning of 3 siphons was restored, allowing for the resumption of water supply.
The state management "Hydrogeology" is currently working actively. Kyrgyzstan has 23.3 km of collector-drainage network, of which 11.6 km have already undergone mechanical cleaning. The remaining 11.7 km are planned to be put in order by the end of 2026 according to an approved schedule.
The ministry notes that the implementation of this project will provide farmers with reliable irrigation, which in turn will increase the yield and quality of agricultural products, as well as help prevent land degradation. This initiative serves as an example of successful cooperation between the two countries in the field of sustainable water resource management in the region.
