In Kyrgyzstan, plans are underway to increase the areas for second crop planting, as reported by Turatbek Idrisov, head of the department for implementing decisions in crop production and horticulture at the Ministry of Agriculture, in an interview on the radio.

According to him, practice has already confirmed the effectiveness of the second crop. Winter wheat, sown in the fall, is harvested by the end of May or early July. The full harvest is completed in July in both the southern regions and the Chui region, after which farmers can sow a second crop in the same fields.

In particular, farmers in the Chui region plant beets, cabbage, and corn for silage after harvesting wheat. These crops manage to mature by autumn, and a second harvest is recorded in September-October.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, last year more than 5,500 hectares were sown for the second crop. This year, there are plans to significantly increase these areas. While previously the volumes of sowing in the Chui region were limited, last year they increased to 7-8 thousand hectares.

The key issue remains the provision of irrigation water. Nevertheless, when sufficient water resources are available, the results of the second crop demonstrate their positive effectiveness.
