
The Kazakh Ministry of Health has announced a ban on the medical use and withdrawal from circulation of a drug intended for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, reports TengriHealth.
The tablets "Desilmax," containing 100 mg of sildenafil (the active ingredient), batch number BSE92301A, with an expiration date until July 2026, are banned. The manufacturer is the Indian company Macleods Pharmaceuticals Limited.
Information: Sildenafil (Viagra) was discovered and synthesized by Pfizer in 1989. Initially, it was investigated as a treatment for cardiovascular diseases, but its effectiveness for erectile dysfunction was confirmed during clinical trials. In 1998, sildenafil was approved for use under the brand name Viagra.
The order for the ban was signed on February 11, 2026, by the chairman of the committee for medical and pharmaceutical control of the Ministry of Health.
According to this document, the specified batch of the drug must be withdrawn from pharmacies and medical institutions.
The reasons for the ban are not disclosed in the order.
