In 2026, the KR plans to put into operation a number of solar power plants
Currently, deputies are considering amendments to the Law "On Electric Power Industry," which propose increasing the maximum capacity for electric and thermal stations from 30 to 50 megawatts. The Deputy Minister emphasized that the adoption of this bill will create opportunities for a greater number of investors wishing to build power plants in the country to take advantage of tax and customs preferences.
In response to deputies' questions, Nasipbek Karimov stated that hydropower plants account for over 95% of electricity generation in Kyrgyzstan. He also added that the Ministry of Energy is actively working on the development of alternative energy sources.
“In December of last year, a solar station with a capacity of 100 megawatts was launched. The Ministry of Energy has agreements with 12 investors in the field of solar generation. In particular, an investment agreement has been signed with OshOO 'Bishkek Solar' for 300 megawatts, and it is expected that 100 megawatts will be put into operation in 2026,” noted the Deputy Minister.
According to him, under an agreement with another investor involved in the construction of a solar power plant with a capacity of 1900 megawatts, the launch of a part with a capacity of 150 megawatts is planned by May 2026, and by the end of the year, another 450 megawatts.
In addition, this year another investor will begin construction of a solar power plant with a capacity of 400 megawatts.
The deputies approved the bill in the first reading following the discussion.
