- During the "Agrodialog" forum, which takes place from February 18 to 21, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Processing Bakyt Torobaev shared initiatives for the concreting of the Large Chui Canals aimed at minimizing water losses and reducing costs in agriculture.

The minister noted that against the backdrop of significant fluctuations in global prices for agricultural products, such as beans, the price of which has fallen from $1600 to $900, farmers may face challenges in covering their expenses.

“Reducing production costs is essential,” he emphasized.

Torobaev also highlighted the importance of reliable and efficient water supply for agricultural lands. In this regard, the development of irrigation infrastructure is planned, which will include the implementation of drip irrigation and the modernization of existing canals.

There are three main canals in the country: the Western, Eastern, and Southern Large Chui Canals. The Western LCC is 146 km long, of which only 3.9 km are paved. The Eastern LCC, with a length of 97 km, has a concrete surface for 10 km, while the Southern LCC, 36 km long, is covered with concrete over a stretch of 5.8 km.

“Since most canals remain earthen, water losses become significant,” he added.
