The introduction of a ban on the export of live cattle in Kyrgyzstan did not lead to a significant increase in meat prices, as reported by Uran Chekirbaev, head of the food security department of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, in an interview with the radio.
The ban, established in August of last year, helped prevent a sharp spike in meat product prices in the domestic market, Chekirbaev noted.
“This initiative has played an important role in keeping prices stable. Currently, we are considering the possibility of extending the ban for several months due to ongoing high inflation,” he added.
According to the National Bank, although inflation for food products has decreased in the overall structure, the rise in prices for non-food products continues to remain high.
“Meat prices remain stable and do not show sharp fluctuations. The Ministry conducts regular price monitoring in collaboration with local authorities,” he emphasized.
Note:
On February 10, 2026, the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry presented a draft law for public discussion on extending the ban on the export of live cattle for a period of six months. This measure aims to ensure the domestic market is supplied with meat and stabilize prices against the backdrop of rising consumption and inflationary risks.
