Burul Amanova, a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, has initiated a ban on the import of smuggled rice from Uzbekistan.
According to her, producers from the village of Ak-Tulpar in the Batken region are concerned that due to the influx of cheaper smuggled products, they are facing difficulties in selling local rice.
The Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Bakyt Torobaev, in response to this information, stated that he had not received any reports about the smuggled import of rice.
Moreover, he noted that his Uzbek counterpart had previously requested the supply of 32,000 tons of rice due to a shortage in the market.
“I informed him that we do not have the capacity to provide such a volume. However, I will instruct to strengthen control at the border,” Torobaev added.
