Torobaev: Beans have become a traded commodity, but export requires processing

At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev announced that beans are now a commodity available for trading on the international exchange.
He noted that the price of beans has dropped from $1600 to $930 per ton. During the analysis, it was revealed that Kyrgyz beans are mainly exported in their raw form, while producers from other countries carry out processing, including fumigation and quality packaging, which significantly increases their market value.

According to the minister, measures have already begun in Kyrgyzstan to improve the packaging and fumigation of beans. He also suggested considering the possibility of adding beans to the diet of the army and school nutrition as a valuable source of protein.

Torobaev added that he instructed to calculate transportation costs for exports. He emphasized the importance of adhering to quality standards: there should be about 200 beans in 100 grams, and the minimum size for calibration should not be less than 7-8 mm, while currently this figure has dropped to 5-6 mm.

In this regard, the ministry recommends that farmers from the Talas region consider switching to the cultivation of other agricultural crops.
