Fall in Bean Prices: Torobaev Discussed Support Measures for Talas Farmers
Torobaev noted that the price of beans has fallen almost by half — from $1600 to $930 per ton, which is related to the dependence of this product on global stock exchange quotations. Moreover, Kyrgyz producers are facing competitiveness issues. While other countries export beans using fumigation and quality packaging, local farmers are limited to simply removing dust.
According to the minister, fumigation includes measures to combat pests and plant diseases. In this regard, the government intends to implement modern standards for fumigation and packaging of beans. A previously purchased batch of 1000 tons will serve as a practical example for farmers regarding the fumigation process.
The issue of updating the seed fund is also being raised. Currently, the quality of local beans is characterized by a lower caliber of 5-6, while international requirements are 8-9. To support domestic demand, the government plans to include beans in the menus of schools and the army as an important source of protein.
In conclusion of his speech, Torobaev noted that the authorities are exploring the possibility of subsidizing transportation costs for exports. Farmers in the Talas region have also been offered to consider the possibility of growing alternative agricultural crops, but the final decision remains with the farmers themselves.
