Milk in Kyrgyzstan may become more expensive soon

Farmers demand an increase in the purchase price to 40-45 soms per liter

At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Finance, Budget, Entrepreneurship, and Competition Development, farmers requested to raise the purchase price of milk to 40-45 soms per liter.

As stated by farmer representative Aigul Nurumbetova, current milk prices range from 28 to 42 soms, depending on the region of the country.

“Milk prices have dropped significantly. Some farming families are forced to sell all their milk, even leaving none for their children, to afford groceries and pay for kindergartens. We ask dairy factories to set a unified price of 40-45 soms, without differentiating between summer and winter,” she clarified. Nurumbetova also added that farmers are prepared to appeal to the president and the head of the State Committee for National Security if the price decline continues.

Additionally, Baktybek Tuuganbaev, head of Talas Daamy LLC, noted that in the Talas region, one cow produces an average of 8 liters of milk, while in Belarus it is 20 liters, and in Russia, it is 15 liters.

“It is necessary to increase productivity. The Ministry of Agriculture should consider ways to achieve this, possibly by updating cow breeds or importing new ones,” he suggested.
