The head of the MDS responded to how many critical minerals are found in Kyrgyzstan.

At a recent business breakfast held as part of the two-day business forum "B5+1" in Bishkek, the Executive Director of the State Agency for Geology and Mineral Resources, Askar Sydykov, shared information about the country's mineral resources.

Sydykov noted that over 1,020 deposits and occurrences of minerals have been registered in Kyrgyzstan, representing 51 types of mineral raw materials, including gold, silver, copper, antimony, tungsten, as well as various rare and rare earth elements.

He also added that as a result of a comprehensive assessment, a list of 22 critical minerals with confirmed or potential resources has been compiled.

As of September 2025, 2,005 licenses for subsoil use have been issued in the country, of which 103 belong to state enterprises with full state participation. In the first six months of the current year, foreign direct investment in the mining sector reached $190.3 million, accounting for 21.5% of the total investment in the country's economy. Sydykov noted that compared to the same period last year, the influx of investment in the mining sector has more than doubled (by 203.5%), indicating a growing interest from investors in this industry.
