The First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet explained why the government decided to intervene in the work of public catering establishments
At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev expressed confusion about why the Cabinet intervened in the operations of cafes and restaurants by abolishing the service charge.
“I understand your good initiative, but you have made so many changes that now it is impossible to turn back. Why it was necessary to intervene is unclear to me. Now the restaurant business is in shock from your decisions. Can you cancel this decree?” — Bekeshev asked.
In response, the First Deputy Chairman of the Government Daniyar Amangeldiev emphasized that public catering establishments were not allowed to include a service charge in the cost of dishes without the customers' consent.
Amangeldiev explained that these measures were introduced to protect consumer rights.
“By law, the service charge must be voluntary. Including this amount in the bill without the customer's consent is unlawful. Our task is to bring the situation in line with current legislation,” — he added.
The Deputy Head of the Cabinet also noted that work is currently underway across the entire service sector, where price increases are observed. These activities are being carried out in cooperation with the antimonopoly authority.
