At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Prime Minister Daniyar Amangeldiev stated that cafes and restaurants were not allowed to add 15 percent to the price of their dishes as a service charge.

He explained that according to current legislation, service rewards should be based on voluntary principles.

“Some establishments included 15 percent in the price of dishes, which is a violation of the law. Currently, the government, within its powers, is correcting this situation. We are conducting the necessary calculations and interacting with the service sector. Recently, this sector has shown a significant increase in prices, and the cancellation of the 15 percent is aimed at protecting consumer rights,” Amangeldiev added in his speech.

Moreover, he noted that the Antimonopoly Service is monitoring the situation regarding price increases in the catering sector.

However, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev criticized the government's new decree. He expressed the opinion that the actions of the cabinet of ministers have led to negative consequences for ordinary citizens. “Now cafes and restaurants are under pressure, and people are suffering. Perhaps it is worth reconsidering this decision. It would be better if you focused on regulating prices for essential food products, such as meat and oil,” he added.
