Kyrgyzstan sharply reduced the import of seedlings

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic, through the Department of Chemicalization, Plant Protection, and Quarantine, has implemented strict control measures for the import of seedlings, which are classified as products with a high phytosanitary risk. According to information from the department's press service, every seedling that crosses the country's border undergoes a multi-level inspection, including a detailed examination of documentation and certificates, as well as mandatory laboratory analysis for hidden pests and diseases. In the event of threats being detected, stringent disinfection measures are applied: in 2025, the volume of fumigation reached a record 156 thousand cubic meters, significantly exceeding previous years.

According to statistics, significant changes have occurred in the market: while in 2024 imports amounted to over 13.3 million seedlings, in 2025 this figure fell by almost half, reaching 6.86 million. Exports have also decreased, indicating a shift in trade flows. At the same time, the requirements for the quality of imports are becoming increasingly stringent: now, in addition to a certificate, an authorization document confirming the right to use specific varieties and hybrids in Kyrgyzstan is also required for import.

The department also emphasizes "chemical safety" in the agricultural sector. There is a strict ban on the use of unregistered pesticides and agrochemicals in the country. All substances that have not undergone state registration are subject to confiscation, and their import is completely blocked. This strict policy of the department is aimed at creating a reliable barrier against quarantine organisms that can cause serious damage to the ecosystem and agriculture of the country.
