"Supra-national rules for electronic commerce are being prepared in the EAEU, - Ministry of Economic Development"
Nasirdinov noted that last year sellers on marketplaces faced certain difficulties, particularly regarding issues related to the recipients of goods and VAT payment. In 2026, extensive work is expected to prepare documents that will define the rules for the functioning of electronic trading platforms within the union.
The ministry representative also mentioned that the possibility of introducing requirements is being discussed, according to which large marketplaces will have to become tax residents and independently pay VAT when selling goods. It is expected that the signing of the relevant acts will take place at the end of 2026 - beginning of 2027.
According to the plans, VAT will be paid by the electronic trading platform at the moment the buyer actually receives the goods. Nasirdinov emphasized that this innovation will help solve current problems related to the taxation of cross-border electronic trade, as well as streamline financial settlements within the union.
