In 2025, the construction and commissioning of eight small hydropower plants with a total capacity of 44.59 MW was completed in Kyrgyzstan, as reported by the Ministry of Energy.
Among the new facilities, the "Kara-Kul" HPP, owned by JSC "Chakan HPP," stands out, which was officially opened on October 27, 2025, with the participation of President Sadyr Japarov.

Currently, JSC "Chakan HPP" is also actively constructing three additional small hydropower plants: Orto-Tokoy, Papanskaya, and Nizhny Tarskaya. Although small hydropower plants cannot fully replace large energy facilities, they play a significant role in ensuring the country's energy security and reducing the electricity deficit.

According to the ministry, in 2025, the small hydropower plants in the country produced over 400 million kWh of electricity, of which more than 41 million kWh came from the newly launched stations.

"JSC 'Chakan HPP' plans to continue developing the small hydropower sector, including the construction of new facilities and improving the reliability of existing capacities," the statement noted.
