Minister Bakyt Torobaev visited the water channels in the Issyk-Ata district

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev visited the Eastern Big Chuy Canal, the irrigation canal R-24, and the Tuz Basin in the Issyk-Ata district on January 24. This information was provided by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

During his trip, the minister familiarized himself with the condition of the canals and the ongoing repair work being carried out in their areas.

The length of the Eastern Big Chuy Canal is 97 kilometers, and it provides irrigation for 41,500 hectares of agricultural land. This canal was put into operation in 1957.

The R-24 canal is located within the rural municipality of Jayylma. Of its total length of 1,350 meters, 1,350 meters have already been concreted, while 5,075 meters remain earthen. This canal supplies water for 1,100 hectares of irrigated land. In 2025, the concreting of a section of the canal measuring 1,480 meters was completed, covering a total area of 5,415 m². Subsequently, in 2026, the concreting of another section measuring 1,280 meters, with a total area of 4,655 m², is planned.

The Tuz Basin, which was built for water resource management, began its operation in 1987. After the completion of major repairs, its water capacity reached 1.8 million cubic meters.

This basin additionally supplies water for the irrigation of lands in the following areas:
- Jayylmin rural area, village of Tuz — 1,300 hectares of irrigated land
- city of Kant, village of Luxembourg — 1,100 hectares of irrigated land

This water supply is aimed at improving yields and developing agricultural activities for local farmers.
