
According to information presented at the meeting of the Ministry of Energy's board, last year the electricity deficit in the country amounted to 3.9 billion kilowatt-hours.
In 2025, the electricity consumption in Kyrgyzstan reached 19.3 billion kilowatt-hours, while its own production was only 15.4 billion.
The main sources of electricity production were large hydroelectric power stations, which provided 12.9 billion kilowatt-hours, thermal power plants — 2.01 billion, small hydroelectric power stations — 0.223 billion, and renewable energy sources — 0.234 billion.
To meet the growing needs, Kyrgyzstan had to import 3.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from neighboring countries.

There was also a modernization of existing hydroelectric power stations, which led to an increase in their capacities by 69 megawatts.
