In Bishkek, despite a series of setbacks, the 75th anniversary of the trolleybus was celebrated
Two days before the event, Park Hotel announced its refusal, and less than a day before, B Hotel made a similar decision. The third venue canceled just a few hours before the event began. During the celebration itself, the hotel unexpectedly lost power. The organizers sent pre-trial claims to both hotels and intend to seek compensation.
Despite all the difficulties, a discussion on the topic "75 Years of Electric Transport History in Kyrgyzstan: Prospects and Solutions" took place. A recording of the round table is available on YouTube.
Participants in the discussion included:
Anastasia Bogatyrëva, representative of the UN OHCHR, Yegor Muleev, research fellow at the Leibniz Institute of Regional Geography (online), Prof. Ángel Aparicio, UNDP KR expert on the electric mobility project (online), Ajar Baisalova, representative of the Asian Development Bank, economist Marat Musuraliev with a report on electric buses, Murat Karypov, executive director of "Bir Duyno Kyrgyzstan".
The organizers noted that discussing sustainable transport issues is particularly relevant for a city where air pollution levels have reached critical levels. They expressed gratitude to all participants and guests, as well as to the staff of the trolleybus management for their many years of work and contribution to infrastructure development.
The anniversary served as a reminder that the trolleybus was introduced in Bishkek as a gift for the establishment of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region and has remained an important part of the transport system for decades. Experts emphasize that the future of environmentally friendly transport is only possible with the joint operation of trolleybuses, electric buses, and trams.
