Donald Trump announced the introduction of a new customs duty of 25 percent on the import of semiconductors. This information is posted on the official White House website.

According to the document, the duty will apply, among other things, to Nvidia H200 and AMD MI325 chips. However, there are exceptions: the duty will not be charged if the semiconductors are used for expanding the country's production capacities, scientific research, or in data centers.

The document also states that currently the U.S. produces only about 10 percent of the necessary semiconductors, which creates a serious dependence on foreign supplies and "poses a threat to the national security of the country."

Furthermore, the Axios portal emphasizes that the company Nvidia, which previously received permission to export chips produced in Taiwan to China, will now have to pay this import duty.
