"Cash Only". Markets and Stores in Kyrgyzstan Are Refusing Electronic Wallets
Markets and stores across the country are witnessing a decline in the use of electronic wallets. Social media users are reporting this phenomenon.
Vendors prefer to accept cash payments, ignoring payment systems such as O!Money, MegaPay, and "ELSOM." The main reason for this decision is the fear of significant fines from the State Tax Inspection.
According to entrepreneurs, starting in 2026, it will be illegal to use electronic wallets registered to individuals or their relatives. Penalties for violations are set at 20,000 soms for individuals and 65,000 soms for legal entities. Tax authorities have already begun conducting raids to identify violators.
