The deputy compared the Leilek district to the Sahara due to the lack of water.

- During the plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh on January 14, 2026, Deputy Kamila Talieva drew attention to the acute shortage of water resources in the Leilek district, located in the Batken region.

She noted that local residents are in need of access to both drinking and irrigation water.

“Villagers are requesting the construction of a water reservoir right in the village to accumulate water, which is necessary for both domestic needs and agriculture,” the deputy emphasized.

Additionally, she added that two new wells need to be drilled in the Leilek district to improve water supply.

Comparing the situation in the region to the Sahara, Talieva highlighted the catastrophic lack of water.
