Temporary ban on the export of ferrous metal waste from the Kyrgyz Republic is proposed to be extended

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan has initiated a discussion on the proposal to extend the temporary ban on the export of ferrous metals and their waste from the country. The corresponding draft document has already been presented for public discussion.

According to the new version of the resolution, it is proposed that the ban on the export of scrap and waste of ferrous metals, including ingots for remelting, will be extended for an additional six months. This ban covers goods designated by code 7204 of the EEU Customs Tariff.

There are five major metal processing companies operating in the republic, which have a combined capacity of about 490 thousand tons per year. To support metallurgical enterprises, the government previously imposed export customs duties on scrap and waste of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. However, according to information from the justification note, these measures have proven to be insufficiently effective in reducing export volumes.

The initiative's developers emphasize that the reintroduction of the ban will help meet the growing demand for quality secondary scrap metal in the domestic market.
