Explosion on the Bridge at the Panama Canal: One Person Killed, Four Injured
The fire alarm was received at 4:12 PM local time (3:12 AM in Bishkek). Firefighters arrived at the scene and found three burning tank trucks, as well as fuel tanks that were at risk.
Two people with second-degree burns were evacuated, while two other injured individuals, who are firefighters, were taken to a medical facility.
Video footage from the scene shows a fireball erupting as vehicles passed over the bridge.
"The situation is under control. Two firefighters were injured, but their lives are not in danger. Two civilians sustained minor injuries. We confirm that one person has died. Investigative authorities are working at the scene," said fire service officials.
The Panama Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary information suggests that the fire started on a vessel, after which the fuel on board exploded, leading to the spread of fire to nearby fuel trucks. Specialists have already begun collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to clarify all circumstances of the incident.
