According to information from North Korean state media, recent ground tests were conducted on a modernized solid-fuel rocket engine, which is claimed to be capable of creating missiles that can reach targets on U.S. territory. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to KCNA, observed the testing process.

As reported by AP, North Korean media characterized this development as a "significant achievement" that is expected to enhance the country's military capabilities. According to KCNA, the maximum thrust of the new engine is 2,500 kilonewtons, while similar tests in September 2025 showed results of about 1,970 kilonewtons.

Experts interviewed on this topic believe that the information from Pyongyang regarding the capabilities of the new engine may be somewhat exaggerated. They note that solid-fuel rockets are easier to transport and conceal before launch compared to rockets using liquid fuel.

Kim Jong Un has previously made sharp statements against the U.S. and reaffirmed the intention to continue developing North Korea's military potential.
