This decision was announced by Trump on his Truth Social account, noting that "at the request of the Iranian government," he is suspending actions until Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8:00 PM Eastern Time (midnight Greenwich Mean Time on April 7). He added that negotiations are going well, despite misinformation from some media.
Over the past weekend, Trump threatened to destroy Iranian power plants if Tehran did not open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. In response, Iranian authorities stated their intention to completely close the strait to shipping, as reported by the BBC.
On Monday, Trump mentioned that the dialogue between the U.S. and Iran is "productive," and initially suspended strikes for five days. It later became known that the U.S. offered Iran a list of 15 conditions to end the conflict, which were rejected, while Iran presented its five-point plan.
It is unclear who the negotiations are being conducted with among Iranian officials. Trump claims that Iranian representatives are afraid to speak openly about the negotiations, fearing retribution from their compatriots or even the U.S.
“They really want to make a deal, but they are afraid they might be killed. They are also concerned that we could eliminate them,” Trump added during a conversation with journalists.
After the announcement of the postponement of strikes on Iran's energy sector, oil prices in global markets began to decline, although by Thursday there was an increase due to concerns about oil shortages caused by the conflict.
During a government meeting on Thursday, Trump also spoke about a gift from Iran. He had previously mentioned that the Iranians gave him something valuable but did not disclose the details. When asked about the progress of the negotiations, he noted that Tehran wants to demonstrate the seriousness of its intentions. Trump reported that Iran promised to allow eight oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, and this indeed happened.
“I thought maybe we are dealing with the right people. They apologized and agreed to let two more tankers through, so in the end, we got ten,” Trump explained.
Iran, for its part, denies conducting dialogue with the U.S. A member of the parliamentary committee on national security and foreign policy, Yakub Rezazadeh, expressed the opinion that Washington is reporting successful negotiations to control oil prices.
Meanwhile, Israel continues its attacks on Iran. The Israel Defense Forces reported conducting about 20 airstrikes on Iranian "launch positions" over the past day. In their message on social media X, they stated that they dropped about 70 munitions on facilities used for storing and launching ballistic missiles and air defense systems, resulting in the elimination of military personnel at these sites. On Thursday, Israel also reported the elimination of the commander of the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Alireza Tangsiri, who was responsible for the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
