In the Sukhbaatar aimag, the construction of a zinc processing plant is in its final stages.
This new plant, which is the second largest zinc concentrator in the region, will be able to process 300,000 tons of ore annually, producing up to 30,000 tons of zinc for export.
As part of a seven-year project, a total of 138,000 tons of material is planned to be processed, which will allow the government and local budgets to receive about ₮250 million in tax revenues.
The construction is being carried out by Polymetal Resource, which is fully funded from internal sources. Currently, construction work on the Salkhit-Bor-Tolgoi zinc enrichment plant is 85% complete, and its opening is scheduled for June 2026.
The company's director, Mönkbat, reported that work continues on the removal of overburden and ore extraction. It is expected that the project will create 341 jobs for the entire duration of its implementation, while more than 20 local residents are already employed, and recruitment and testing of new employees is ongoing.
